Teams spending $50k–$500k/month should compare operating models before moving money. This page compares ownership, access scoping, billing custody, support coordination, and offboarding — and states plainly what neither structure can promise.
The difference is operational, not a platform privilege. A self-serve setup is typically owned and billed by your own business. A managed agency setup defines who owns or accesses the account, who funds and bills it, and who coordinates incidents in the service agreement. Neither structure overrides platform policy, review outcomes or spending limits. Confirm the actual billing options and support paths available to your account rather than inferring them from its label.
Standard setups are usually client-owned; managed setups are client-owned with scoped access or provider-owned. Either way, name the owning entity and platform ID before funds move.
Both models may use card payments, prepay or platform invoicing where eligible. A managed agreement identifies who funds the account, who invoices whom, and how spend is reconciled; it does not create a platform billing entitlement.
Both structures remain subject to platform enforcement. A provider coordinates evidence and escalation through official channels; the platform still decides outcomes and timing.

Account Ownership
Who the advertiser account belongs to
|
Usually your business
Verify the ad account owner and administrator path in your Business Manager settings before granting anyone access.
|
Named in the contract
Provider-owned or client-owned with scoped access — ask for the owning entity and platform business ID in writing before funds move.
|
|
Payment Infrastructure
Method of settlement and risk of holds
|
Direct Platform Billing
Options may include card payments, prepay or platform invoicing where eligible. For example, Google monthly invoicing is available to qualifying advertisers, not only managed-agency clients.
|
Contract-Defined Billing Roles
Payment options remain subject to eligibility. The agreement names who funds the account, who invoices whom, and how invoices reconcile against platform spend at account and date level.

|
Platform Support & Escalation
Who coordinates policy flags and appeals
|
Standard support queues
Review timing depends on the issue and the platform. Check the current process and any stated estimate; an estimate is not an outcome guarantee.
|
Coordinated escalation
A provider prepares evidence and escalates through available official channels. Manual review decisions and timing remain the platform's.
|
|
Policy Enforcement
Whether any account is exempt
|
Applies fully
Ads, billing, identity, and business verification are all subject to platform review on standard accounts.
|
Applies equally
No account structure, provider, or label exempts an account from platform policy or enforcement — including managed ones.

Pixel & CAPI Data Safety
Preserving conversion history
|
Yours if configured
Pixels, datasets, and audiences belong to the business that owns them; verify administrator access and keep exports current.
|
Partner Asset Sharing
Define who owns each pixel, dataset, and catalog, what is shared via official permission workflows, and what is exportable on exit.
|
|
Restriction & Continuity
What happens during an incident
|
Platform appeal paths
A restricted account follows the platform's appeal process. Check the current status and any stated review estimate. Balances follow platform billing rules.
|
Contract-defined continuity
Replacement boundaries, balance reconciliation, and exit terms written into the agreement where included. Platform reinstatement decisions remain the platform's.
|
|
Scaling & Spend Ceilings
How budget increases are handled
|
Platform-set limits
Spending limits vary by account, change over time, and rise only as the platform allows.
|
Funding planned around ceilings
Funding structures are sized to your plan under agreement. Platform-set ceilings still govern delivery — managed does not mean uncapped.

In-depth operational analysis for founders, CMOs, and heads of paid acquisition.
A campaign's ROAS does not by itself establish the account's spending capacity. Check the account's current limit, payment status and any review notice before planning a budget increase.
A managed model plans funding, billing, and account structure around those ceilings. It does not remove them — and no provider can.
Before a seasonal peak, confirm the payment method or invoicing arrangement actually enabled on each account. Check funding deadlines, credit limits where applicable, and who will investigate a failed payment.
If billing interrupts delivery, use the platform's billing status and the payment provider's response to identify the issue. A managed arrangement should name the coordinator and reconciliation process; it does not guarantee that payments or delivery will remain uninterrupted.
Under the operating agreement, dedicated accounts are provisioned and your primary brand assets — domain, Conversions API pixel, page identities — stay under your ownership, connected through official permission workflows.
Isolation reduces blast radius when one account runs into a problem; it does not make any account immune to policy review.
Standard support funnels you into automated agents and front-line queues with no authority to revisit an automated flag.
We coordinate escalation through the official support and partner channels available to the accounts we manage, prepare the evidence package, and track the response. Manual review decisions and timelines belong to the platform.
